GHRP-2, also known as pralmorelin, is one of the growth-hormone-releasing peptides — a small family of synthetic hexapeptides that predate the selective secretagogues and share the same target, the ghrelin receptor. It is often described as a second-generation GHRP: more potent and more studied than the original GHRP-6, and one of the compounds against which newer, more selective agonists like ipamorelin are compared.

Composition

A synthetic hexapeptide (six residues) incorporating D-configured and non-natural amino acids, with an amidated C-terminus. Like the other GHRPs it is an agonist of the growth-hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R) — the ghrelin receptor — placing it on the secretagogue side of this cluster, not the GHRH-analog side.

Where GHRP-2 sits in the secretagogue family

The GHRPs — GHRP-2, GHRP-6 and hexarelin among them — are all ghrelin-receptor agonists, engaging GHS-R rather than the GHRH receptor. That firmly locates GHRP-2 on the secretagogue side of this product cluster, alongside ipamorelin and the non-peptide MK-677, and opposite the GHRH analogs sermorelin, tesamorelin and CJC-1295.

GHRP-2 is six amino acids long, but its sequence includes D-configured and non-standard residues and an amidated C-terminus, so it does not reduce to a clean list of the usual amino-acid codes.
